Hi all. I hear that the pAC Mate omni will support many wireless cards, some faster and more secure than those currently supported. I'm wondering, of the Socket cards or others, which would be a bnod alternative for the fastest possible Internet connection? Thanks.

Hi.

The speed or bandwidth that the card supports is for the most part not important, the exceptions to this is if your router only supports one standard for example i eee 802.11g and not i eee 802.11b or if you have a VERY and I mean VERY fast internet connection.

You'll be wanting to purchase something that supports 802.11b (for if you are using a old access point), 802.11g (The most comon wireless standard atm) or 802.11n (Currently only in a draft form, despite beeing the fastest i wouldn't advise this as the standard could change, rendering your card not complient).

Another thing that perhaps i'm just beeing a bit picky about is the hole securitty thing. Its not the actual cards security that you should be worrying about as security is done at the router / access point end, its the encryption protocols that the card supports thats important.
You'll be wanting to make sure that the card supports wpa encryption amongst others as this is the strongist form of encryption that is widely used.

This is partly why I don't use devices such as yours, as i'd have to compremize my intire setup and all the other computers on my networks security just to get the damb thing on the internetz!

Hope I was of some help - if you tell me what kinda connections the thing takes i could probably link to some model numbers for you.
BEN.
